Michael Bierut studied graphic design at the University of Cincinnati, College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning. Prior to joining Pentagram in 1990 as a partner in the firm's New York office, he worked for ten years at Vignelli Associates, ultimately as vice president of graphic design.

His clients at Pentagram have included The New York Times, Saks Fifth Avenue, The Council of Fashion Designers of America, Harley-Davidson, The Museum of Arts and Design, United Airlines, The William Jefferson Clinton Foundation, Mohawk Paper Mills, Princeton University, the New York Jets, & the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and the Morgan Library and Museum.

His designs and those of his team have won hundreds of prestigious design awards. In 2006 he was awarded the profession's highest honor, the AIGA Medal. His design work is represented in the permanent collections of art and design museums world wide.

Michael is a Senior Critic in Graphic Design at the Yale School of Art, and a Senior Faculty Fellow at the Yale School of Management. He writes frequently about design in journals, the weblog: DesignObserver.com which he co-founded, and books and can be heard on Public Radio International program "Studio 360".

His appearance in Helvetica: A Documentary Film is considered by many that movie’s funniest moment.

His presentation was great, glad it was a free event as well. Building on the missing T comment, it should be noted that his name is misspelled two other times. 1) in the orange bar, and 2) in the first paragraph. It's Bierut

I really liked his presentation, and am glad to see a "free event" put out there by AIGA for a change. However, I almost was unable to attend. If I hadn't checked UMBC's web site for directions when the GPS wouldn't take this address info, I wouldn't have known it cost quarters to park there and would have had to turn around and come home. (I didn't happen to have the cash to put into a change machine.) PLEASE post CRITICAL parking information on future events. It could lead those of us not familiar with the campus to have a horrible AIGA event experience, getting there and not being able to pay for parking not knowing the situation. Awesome presentation though.. :)

There is a T missing from his last name on the banner. "Michael Beiru Presentation" I hope he's coming to DC! :)
